Hillcrest Special Education

We offer:

• Monitoring of progress within the regular academic program
• Extra time and tests and quizzes,
• Help with test writing strategies
• Academic support through remediation and re-teaching
• Learning Strategies Classes and Resource periods
• Help with transitions (to high school from grade 8 and to post- secondary education)
• The special education room (109) is equipped with computers, printers, and soft-ware programs that help with note-taking and organization
• Support for students’ subject teachers

OCDSB Programs:

Applications and inquiries regarding these programs must be directed to the school board. Entry into these programs is based on both the student's specific needs and the availability of space in the program. An application for placement in the program is made by the student's community school principal in collaboration with the in-school



Asperger’s Class


The Asperger’s Syndrome Program is a semi-integrated program in which students are expected to integrate into regular high school credit courses. Learning Strategies courses are offered by the Asperger’s Syndrome Program teacher as well as a focus on age-appropriate social communication and self-regulation. Developmental Disabilities Class

The Developmental Disabilities Program is a system-based program located in designated schools across the OCDSB; these are referred to as semi-integrated sites. These sites offer students programming in a specialized classroom with opportunities to integrate with age-appropriate peers.
